For each gig, I sent them invoices for my day rate, and an expense report for per diem and travel incidentals. They'd send me to a site, I'd work for two weeks or so on the show, and then I'd go home till they needed me again. I live in NYC, the company is incorporated in Maryland, and the gigs were in different states throughout the country (TN, CA, CO, NY, NJ, DC, FL, NV). I was working gig to gig for one specific company and was paid as a contractor, taxed with 1099-NEC. I believe this is NY State but you'll see why that's unclear below.įor context: Until recently, and from late 2021 to early 2023, I was a freelancer in the TV/ Live TV Event industry. Please tell me if I am better off deleting this now and just going to a lawyer.
